森見登美彦「ペンギン・ハイウェイ
森見登美彦氏の“新境地”にして、最高傑作との呼び声高い小説「ペンギン・ハイウェイ」がアニメーション映画化されることが3月1日（木）、都内で行われた製作発表会見で明らかになった。■弱冠29歳の新鋭・石田祐康がメガホン 制作は「スタジオコロリド」
ピュアな眼差しで未来を見つめる、少し生意気な小学4年生“アオヤマ君”がひと夏に体験する「すこし・ふしぎ」を瑞々しく描く本作。第14回文化庁メディア芸術祭アニメーション部門優秀賞を受賞した、弱冠29歳の新鋭・石田祐康が待望の長編デビューを飾る。森見氏の小説が長編アニメ化されるのは『夜は短し歩けよ乙女』（湯浅政明監督）に続き2度目。脚本は同作の上田誠（ヨーロッパ企画）が続投する。
制作は現在、最も“アツイ”と各方面で注目を浴びる「スタジオコロリド」が担当し、フルデジタルアニメーションながらも繊細で、温かみのある表現が、原作のもつ爽やかなテイストを忠実に、そしてさらにスケールアップさせる。東宝映像事業部の配給で、今年8月に全国ロードショー。この夏、誰の記憶にも残る唯一無二のファンタジームービーの誕生だ。
■“アオヤマ君”演じるのは、声優初挑戦にして初主演を務める北香那
主人公である小学4年生の“アオヤマ君”を演じるのは、声優初挑戦にして初主演を務める女優の北香那。最近では、急逝した大杉漣さんが出演していた「バイプレイヤーズ～もしも名脇役がテレ東朝ドラで無人島生活したら～」で、大杉漣さんの付き人兼マネージャーのジャスミン役で脚光を浴びる新進女優が、オーディションで主役を勝ち取った。
また、“アオヤマ君”の初恋相手で、ミステリアスな歯科助手の“お姉さん”役を務めるのは、『彼女がその名を知らない鳥たち』（白石和彌監督）で本年度の映画賞を総なめにしている蒼井優。アニメーションの声優は『花とアリス殺人事件』（岩井俊二監督）以来3年ぶりとなる。
■北香那（アオヤマ君） 役作りのために、妹の授業参加に！
「声のお仕事は憧れであり、夢だったので、（合格を知り）感極まって、泣いてしまいました。脚本を読み、柔らかくてかわいらしい作品だと感じましたし、それだけじゃなくて、生きるとは何かを考えさせる物語だと思いました。キャラクターの表情や口の形で（声を）合わせるのは、本当に難しかったです。私にはアオヤマ君と同世代の妹がいるので、授業参加に行って、小学4年生の男子の動きみたいなものを参考にしました」
■蒼井優（お姉さん） 自分は“お姉さん”要素がない？
「かわいらしいペンギンも出てきますし、お子さんに見てもらいたいのはもちろん、お父さん、お母さん世代にも見てほしいですね。今回“お姉さん”を演じて、自分にはあまり“お姉さん”要素がないことに気づいて、（演じるのが）難しいなと…。その分、新しいチャレンジをさせていただきました。アフレコは残り半分残っていて、やっと（役を）つかめてきました」
■石田祐康監督 初の長編アニメ「吹っ切ってやるだけ」
「これまで小さなスタジオで、短編やCMなど小規模の作品を自分なりに作ってきましたが、今回、このような大きな舞台を用意していただき、大変うれしいです。と同時に、ちょっとおっかない気持ちも…。緊張してばかりもいられないので、吹っ切れて、やるだけやろうと思います。完成したら、早くご覧になる皆さんの反応を見てみたいです。（劇中の）アオヤマ君が楽しそうに探検しているので、作り手としても少年の気持ちになって、（気分が）乗っています」
■森見登美彦（原作） 「小説家としても特別な作品」と強い思い入れ
「子どもの頃を舞台にした作品で、一番根っこにある世界を描いているので、小説家としても特別な作品です。映像化は大変光栄ですが、（小説は）かわいい子どもであるので、最初は若干の抵抗と心配もありました。でも、絵コンテなどを拝見し、これなら大丈夫。すてきな作品になるだろうと思っています」
■『ペンギン・ハイウェイ』ってどんなお話？
小学4年生の少年アオヤマ君は、1日1日、世界について学び、学んだことをノートに記録する。利口な上、毎日努力を怠らず勉強するので、大人になったときにどれほど偉くなっているか、見当もつかない。
そんなアオヤマ君は、通っている歯科医院の“お姉さん”と仲が良く、“お姉さん”は大人びた賢いアオヤマ君を、ちょっと生意気なところも含めて、かわいがっていた。
ある日、アオヤマ君の住む郊外の街にペンギンが出現する。海のない住宅地に突如現れ、そして消えたペンギンたちは、一体どこから来てどこへ行ったのか…。アオヤマ君はペンギンの謎を解くべく研究を始めるのだった。
そしてアオヤマ君は、“お姉さん”が投げたコーラの缶が、ペンギンに変身するのを目撃する。ポカンとするアオヤマ君に、笑顔の“お姉さん”が言った。「この謎を解いてごらん。どうだ、君にはできるか？」
“お姉さん”とペンギンの関係とは？ そしてこの謎は解けるのか？ 少し不思議で、一生忘れない、あの夏の物語。
