「ペンギン・ハイウェイ」がアニメ映画化
「夜は短し歩けよ乙女」などで知られる森見登美彦の小説「ペンギン・ハイウェイ」のアニメーション映画化が決定。3月1日に製作発表会見が行われ、声優を務める北香那、蒼井優、石田祐康監督、森見登美彦が出席した。映画『ペンギン・ハイウェイ』は、まっすぐな瞳で未来を見つめる少し生意気な小学4年生・アオヤマ君のひと夏の“すこしふしぎ”な体験をみずみずしく描くファンタジー映画。制作は、本作が第一回長編作品となるスタジオコロリド。監督は『陽なたのアオシグレ』(13)で劇場デビューを果たした29歳の新鋭・石田祐康、キャラクターデザインを『台風のノルダ』(15)の新井陽次郎が担当する。
オーディションで役を射止めた若手女優の北が、主人公の少年・アオヤマ君役を演じる。アニメーション映画は初参加となる北は「声優さんは憧れ。“声のお仕事をしてみたい”というのは夢だったので、すごくドキドキしてオーディションに向かった」と振り返り、合格の報を受け取った時は「感極まって泣いてしまった。夢がかなったと思った」と明かす。また蒼井から「完璧」と演技を絶賛され、「うれしい」と笑顔を弾けさせる一幕もあった。
いたずらっぽい一面とミステリアスな雰囲気を併せもつ“お姉さん”を演じる蒼井は「アオヤマ君に影響を与えるお姉さん役」と役柄を解説。「声を当ててみて、私にはあまり“お姉さん要素”がないということに気づき、難しいなと思っていた。いままで、小さい子を引っ張っていくという役をやったことがなかった。新しいチャレンジをさせていただき、いい勉強になった」と新境地に挑んだと話す。
森見は「自分のなかで特別な小説」と告白。「子どもの頃を舞台にした作品は、自分の原点を出して書くことになる。自分のなかでは一番根っこにある世界を書いた特別な作品」と語り、それだけにアニメ化に際して「抵抗があった」とのこと。「変なことになってほしくないなと心配しながら送り出したんですが、監督と話して、絵コンテを見せていただいているうちに“これは大丈夫だろう”と思った。監督にお会いした時に熱意がはっきりとあった」と石田監督の熱意が安心材料となったという。
緊張しきりの石田監督は「ありがとうございます！そのお言葉に応えられるよう全力で頑張ります！」と力を込め、「幸運なことに、すばらしい原作、すばらしい女優さんとご一緒できた。緊張はしていますが、ちゃんと吹っ切って“やるだけやったろう！”という気持ちもある」と意欲を見せていた。
